Behind the Designs: The Story of the New William Morris Pet Bed Prints

“Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” William Morris

Born in Walthamstow, East London in 1834, William Morris was a pioneering poet, socialist, environmentalist and a leading figure of the Arts & Crafts movement. Championing the skill of craft traditions through his company, Morris & Co. (est. 1861), he is regarded as one of the foremost creative figures of all time.

Over the years, William Morris’ designs have become synonymous with Victorian interior design and are frequently featured in period restoration and renovation projects.

In this blog, we take a closer look at the brand new Acanthus and Bower Barbed Berry Prints - and hear from The Interior Lens as she tells us how to style the new collection at home.

As well as our usual box beds, mattresses and blankets - there’s two more exciting additions - a slow feeder and double diner in iconic Morris prints that are the perfect find for pet parents and art lovers alike.

Acanthus

As one of Morris’ most iconic prints, the much-loved Acanthus is one of our most exciting new additions. The very first wallpaper released by Morris & Co, the design features complex layering and curves which produces a stunning three-dimensional effect.

Available as a Square Bed and Mattress, the beds are thickly padded for comfort and support and crafted from luxurious, high quality materials with an added anti-slip base,

Not seen in our previous collections, our brand new feeders are a welcome addition to the Rosewood X Morris and Co range. The elegant Double Diner is designed with sturdy Acacia wood - with an option to add our Acanthus Double Walled Slow Feeder to add a personal touch as well as aid your pets digestion.

Bower Barbed Berry

The definition of Bower: ‘A pleasant, shady place under trees or climbing plants in a garden or forest’ perfectly describes this uplifting design. Officially registered as a William Morris pattern in 1877, the historic Bower Berry design depicts ripe flowers and a wonderland of foliage.

Also available as a Mattress, this bright print can be purchased as either a Box Bed or Round Bed - perfect for cultured cats or smaller dog breeds with an appreciation for the arts!

Our popular Morris & Co. blankets are also available in the Bower print, a thick, double-sided throw with complimentary velvet reverse. Quilted with French-style stitching, the throw is perfect for covering your pets beloved bed or laying directly on the floor.

If the Bower Barbed Berry is your preferred print or you simply can’t choose between the designs, the Double Walled Slow Feeder is also available in the Bower print.

Becks, AKA The Interior Lens, was lucky enough to take a first look at the collection, so we caught up with her to hear about how she styled it up at home:

“I’m really passionate about home interiors and give a lot of thought to the colour and patterns I weave into my home. I like to use floral and botanical fabrics in all the rooms in my house because I love to be surrounded by references to nature and pops of colour.

I’ve always been drawn to the timeless look of Morris & Co. designs and the Bower Barbed Berry design particularly appealed to me because of the bright colour of the flowers, the range of blue tones and hint of ochre. The colours work really well with the rest of my living room scheme, so Holly’s bed and throw look like a considered part of our décor compared to her old dog bed which stuck out like a sore thumb! It’s so refreshing to see such beautiful designs available for pet products. As a designer, I’m always encouraging my clients to introduce patterns into their homes and if they don’t feel brave enough to do this via wallpaper then soft furnishings (including the ones designed for our four-legged friends) are absolutely ideal for this”.
